Are you having a very hard time finding an Indie rock band that is worth listening to? I had a very hard time finding an Indie band that I actually give a crap, but I was able to find five that I love the most. As a hardcore Indie music lover, I have been pretty disappointed with the latest bands that just do not cut it. My five favorite might also be on your list already.

1.)    Attic Lights – This band produces super catchy tunes that will be stuck in your head for weeks. They are not well recognized, but they are slowly coming up to the top as one of the best Indie bands.

2.)    Bon Iver- His debut album will get you hooked on his songs forever. You need to buy the album For Emma, Forever Ago which is a masterpiece. If you haven’t heard of it, then go listen to the samples.

3.)    Air – The name might be simple, but the music is not! They have been making music for over a decade, and they never disappoint me. Their brand new album is a must-buy so go get it.

4.)    Mumford and Sons – Their biggest album was in the late 2009 that got everyone raving about. If you didn’t get the album, then you are definitely missing out.

5.)    Dirty Projectors – It is very hard to explain their music, but nonetheless, you will not regret one bit. Their music is filled with originality that will get you hooked on every single song.

Another decade has gone by, and just recently, I decided to come up with a list of bands that I loved in the 2000’s. You might not agree with me, but the seven bands that I am about to mention are my favorite in the 2000’s. Some of you might agree with me and some of you might disagree.

The White Stripes – This band is hands down one of the most unique and original in the decade. Their second and third albums that were released in the decade were extremely catchy and had their tunes stuck in my head for days.

Modest Mouse – Remember the song Float On? This song wasn’t just stuck in my head for days, but for months! Dashboard is another great song that I loved in the decade. You can never go wrong with their music.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – My favorite album from them was Fever To Tell. I think they have the best band name ever.

Death Cab For Cutie – This is a top favorite in the Indie community. My favorite song from that band was The Sound of Settling.

The Decemberists – They have always been actively releasing albums since 2002. Their songs are always one-of-a-kind. I have bought every single one of their albums.

Metric – This band has always been in my top 3 list. Although they are more like the underdogs, they are slowly coming up as one of the best and they will soon be very well-known.

The Hold Steady – I always love the lead singer because this person does not sing. Craig will either talk in the song or he would yell at you. Anyway, their music has always been different to me and fresh.

The Boom Of Indie Music Industry

Many people have underestimated the Indie music industry. Many believed that this will only last for a decade. Sure, it is very difficult for new Indie bands to get started. It is hard for them to get signed, and it is very difficult for them to find capital. Even if they are making some money, it was not enough to support them.

With more and more Indie bands relying on social media such as MySpace, they are able to generate popularity and fans without spending money at all. All they need to do is submit their music to the website, and let people listen to them for free. When people begin to like the music, they will spread the word to friends to let them check it out. This is the best way to catch the attention of record labels without spending a dime.

Back then, Indie bands had to find ways to break into the radio stations, magazines, or get DJs to play their songs. It was very difficult for them to get foot in the door. That is no longer the problem, and not only can they use MySpace, but they can use other popular social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

As long as the Indie band has something different to bring into the music industry, they will become a big hit with word of mouth. It is hard for the people who cannot bring originality to the industry as most sound just like typical Indie rock and punk.
